Why Donate

Domestic violence is not just an issue that affects survivors and their children, but one that affects the entire community. Domestic violence perpetuates gender inequalities within a community, has been show to increase criminal behavior in children who witness abuse, and has ramifications for the economy, resulting in more than $1.8 billion in lower productivity, staff turnover, absenteeism and earnings lost each year. By supporting the work of the NYAWC, you touch the lives of individual women who are survivors of abuse, and help the entire community.

How Donations are Used

Donations from individuals are vital to the work of the NYAWC. They allow us to empower battered women to break the cycle of abuse and start their lives anew.

• A gift of just $50 will support a woman's transportation costs for visits with her counselor, lawyer, and social worker.
• A gift of $100 can provide a mother and child with enough food for two weeks.
• A gift of $500 can provide assistance to help a woman escape violence in her home without ever having to enter a shelter.
• A gift of $1,000 can provide counseling for three children living in our shelters.
• A gift of $5,000 can provide emergency shelter for a woman escaping violence in her home.

Donate Goods

NYAWC accepts gifts of new items, which we can distribute to our clients or use in our shelters. Our needs vary so please check our wish list below to see what donations we are currently accepting. If you would like to make a donation of goods, please email xzhen@nyawc.org.

Needs
Note: Because we have received so many generous donations recently, NYAWC lacks the storage space to accept donations of used clothing, used toys, or used furniture. We are not accepting these items at this time.

We are currently accepting donations of:

• Diapers for the infants and toddlers in our shelters
• Baby food and formula
• Canned or other non-perishible foods
• New toys for children of all ages
• New items that can be given as birthday presents to women living in our shelters (such as pre-packaged gift baskets of bath items or cosmetics, jewelry, etc.)
  

Please be aware that all of our locations are confidential and we do not accept donation drop offs at these locations. If you would like to make a donation of goods, please contact xzhen@nyawc.org.
